MY STATE OF MIND ON EDUCATION: by Comr Ehiabhi GOODNEWS

Hitherto ASUU, NASU, SSANU, NAAT have been embarking on industrial actions to agitate for their interest hiding under the shade of the students interest but after the strike is called off, we return to the nonsense we call education( no offense meant and non should be taken).

Observing this reoccurring strike from a holistic view, I will like to say that these strike actions have not yielded the desired result because the interest of the Nigerian students have been used over time as a tool for national embarrassment. I'll give a break down of ASUU strike from 1999 till date for clarity.

1999 -→ 5 months
2001 -→ 3 months
2002 -→ 2 weeks
2003 -→ 6 months → (ended in 2004)
2005 -→ 3 days
2006 -→ 1 week
2007 -→ 3 months
2008 -→ 1 week
2009 -→ 4 months
2010 -→ 5 months and 1 week
2011—3 months(ended in 2012)
2013 -→ 6 months
2017-- 3 weeks still counting

Now after these actions, we still live in the worst educational condition in a 21st century.

NO MORE RESEARCH PROGRAMS IN OUR SCHOOLS, STRIKE DISRUPTING OUR ACADEMIC CALENDAR, POOR INFRASTRUCTURE, POOR MARKING SCHEME, POOR SCHOOL CURRICULUM e.t.c.
Are we being educated?  Or we are just wasting our time?  As it stands Nigeria has up to 10 million unemployed graduates don't blame them blame the system that didn't equip them properly for the task ahead.

Just making headline recently, the federal government has promised ASUU N220BILLION..what happened to the N200BILLION they got on the negotiation table during the 2013 strike???, what happened to the N20BILLION they got in 2009??? Judging from this, one would agree with me that there is a high probability that another group of ASUU leaders will start their agitation next year and collect their own BILLIONS.

WHAT THEN HAPPENS TO OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS that are waiting patiently to gain admission into the educational mess that we are already involved in?

THE WAY FORWARD...

THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD PUT EVERY NEGOTIATIONS WITH ASUU,  NASU,  SSANU and NAAT on hold and a National confab on Education should be called immediately to discuss the restructuring of our educational system to provide a lasting solution to this reoccurring strike.

THIS CONFAB should involve representatives of THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT,  ASUU, NASU, SSANU, NAAT, SUG LEADERS, TRADITIONAL LEADERS and SCHOLARS and all stakeholders  I won't have mentioned NANS because NANS actually means NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA STUDENTS but the last time I checked, the leadership of NANS have been hijacked by graduates and married men alike but I'll just include NANS in the structure because of Past glory.

THIS CONFAB will champion the restructuring  of our educational system so that we will have the best educational system in Africa and do away with the stupid theories of the 90's and 70's that we are taught in our class rooms.

Ladies and Gentlemen, comrades and hypocrites, I am GOODNEWS and am ready to pay the ultimate price for the RESTRUCTURING OF OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM.

THIS IS MY STATE OF MIND
GOD BLESS MY PEOPLE.

*Futher explanation on the article MY STATE OF MIND ON EDUCATION*
by Comr Ehiabhi GOODNEWS

You know am not against neither am I for the industrial action by the various pressure groups or interest groups ASUU, NASU, SSANU and NAAT because as the saying goes the dividend for labour is wages/ Salary.

To this end, it will be wrong to agitate against these groups because they are fighting for what is theirs. In this society of ours "NIGERIA", we focus on the symptoms and not the cause of our problems. A doctor will tackle the cause of a disease rather than tackle the symptoms.

The UNITED NATIONS as well as UNESCO gave a blueprint that every member state should allocate 26% of her annual budget to Education but it will surprise you to know that in the highest allocation Nigeria have given to education is 6.1% while Ghana allocates 23.1% of her budget to education, Benin Republic allocate 13%, Liberia 12% and the little Cape Verde allocates 15%.

HOW THEN WILL WE HAVE A GOOD SYSTEM WITH 6.1%????

In 2009 ASUU agitated for N89billion and got N20billion after which they backed out.  In 2013 they agitated and got N200billion and backed out and now in 2017 they are about to receive N220billion.

The reoccurring strike does not affect the rich because they can afford expensive private institutions or schools abroad but over time it's the peasants that suffer no wonder it is said that WHEN 2 ELEPHANTS FIGHT THE GRASS SUFFERS..

I am proposing that both the federal government and ASUU put their negotiations on hold and call for a NATIONAL CONFAB instead that will accommodate ASUU,  NASU, SSANU and NAAT and STUDENTS LEADERS not forgetting Traditional leaders.

It is a shame that in a 21st century we are battling with bedbugs in our hostels like it is a national project. university can't employ anymore, no more research and poor infrastructure, outdated marking scheme that make students fail like they are not good enough, outdated theories and many more.

CHINA, JAPAN, IRAN, UAE, NORTH KOREA, RUSSIA and many other countries don't allow borrowed theories in their class rooms instead they teach home made theories because they are theories made from happenings in their immediate society.

Nigerian certificates don't hold weight internationally anymore because our institutions have since fallen.

We need RESTRUCTURING and A NATIONAL CONFAB because it's not just the salary of ASUU that's affecting our institutions but the entire process is bad.

The CONFAB will not affect our calendar rather it will bring a lasting solution to all the reoccurring strike and other issues. We can return to our class rooms while the meetings are ongoing

As for NANS...the last time I checked, they went to Abuja to embarrass themselves.. a body with 2 Presidents?  Are they even students? And they are representing NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA STUDENTS?  I wipe.....
