◽Members: Academic Staffs(Lecturers)
◾Formed in: 1978
◽ Successor to the Nigerian Association of University Teachers formed in 1965.

*PROF. FESTUS IYAYI*
📑Born on the 29th.Of September, 1947.
📑From Ugbegun, Esan land.
📑He was an activist, a writer, Former lecturer of business admin,UNIBEN.
📑He was the National ASUU President 1986/1988.
📑In 1988, ASUU was briefly banned and Prof. FESTUS IYAYI was detained by the Abacha military Regime.
📑Later, He was removed from his position in the faculty by the then Vice Chancellor of Benin, Prof. Grace Alele Williams' adminstration.

📑Prof. Iyayi had the last laugh as he won the case against the school management and Government with the help of the human rights lawyer, FEMI FALANA.

◾He was the winner of Commonwealth writer's prize for his novel heroes(1988).

📝On 12th of Nov 2013.
*PROF. FESTUS IYAYI Died in a ghastly motor accident caused by a convoy of the then Kogi state Governor, Idris wada while on his way to attend the National Executive council meeting of ASUU concerning a four-month strike embarked by the UNION✊*

*📖PROF. IYAYI Will forever be remembered in uniben and ASUU at large for he was talking about himself when he said "Those who carry the cross for the society (ASUU) get crucified in the end"*
