Why the Late Samuel Ogbemudia is worth it: by Davi'O R Seki
Why the late Samuel Ogbemudia is worth it...
Here is a list of reasons why the life of the formal Military head of state should be honoured;
1) He built the Palm house at Airport Road.
2) It was during his Tenure the University of Benin and the University of Benin Teaching Hospital were built. So if you were born in the University of Benin teaching hospital, or graduated from the University of Benin... Or both, then the Late Samuel Ogbemudia deserves your honour.
3) Allegedly tarred most of the roads in Benin City.
4) He brought to Bendel state the New Nigerian Bank (NNB). Which is now Union Bank of Nigeria.
5) Expanded the Ring Road...
6) Built the Bendel production companies and transport lines.
7) Commissioned the Building of the Benin Museum
8) Agbede Mechanised farm. Etc...
If you probably haven't heard of or seen some of those, then you might as well blame his successors.
Although, he did all of these with taxpayers' money and not from his personal riches, he is still worthy of praise. Not everyone today is passionate about building so much using the hard earned money of taxpayers.
He was born 17th September 1932 in Benin City, was appointed Military administrator of Mid-West state in September, 1967 following the liberation of state from the secessionist Biafran forces. Promoted to Lt. Colonel, Ogbemudia was appointed Military Governor of the state on 26 October 1967 and died on 10th March 2017.
From us at UNIBEN Campus Villa, may the soul of the late elder state's man, Chief Samuel Ogbemudia rest in peace... Amen!
